Meet Trevor and Ryan
Meet Trevor and Ryan
Madcap coffee began with a friendship and a common desire: making amazing coffee and sharing it with others.
Trevor and Ryan’s friendship began over a shared passion for coffee; its story, flavor, and ability to bring people together. Neither could imagine a better job than searching out exceptional beans, perfecting how they’re roasted and prepared, and serving them to people who would appreciate the experience. In 2008, they decided to make coffee their livelihood.
TREVOR CORLETT
In 2001, Trevor became enchanted by the culture of specialty coffee shops. That passion collided with his entrepreneurial spirit, and in Trevor’s post-college years, he opened multiple cafés across the Midwest. After years of learning, experimenting, and overcoming challenges, Trevor moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan and co-founded Madcap in 2008.
Today, Trevor serves as CEO with a focus on directing Madcap’s retail operations. Outside of Madcap, he serves on the Board of Directors for Local First in Grand Rapids, on the Barista Guild Unification Committee, and as a Specialized Instructor for the Specialty Coffee Association of America.
Trevor enjoys coffee immensely, but his greatest passion is spending time with his wife and three daughters.
RYAN KNAPP
A semester living in East Africa impacted Ryan in a big way, including his view of coffee’s impact outside the United States. Upon his return, in 2006, Ryan became a part-time barista, working alongside Trevor in Illinois. After immersing himself in blogs, books, events, and hands-on experimenting, Ryan’s passion revealed itself: engaging with each coffee’s story from start to finish. In 2008, he moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan and co-founded Madcap.
Currently, as Madcap’s Director of Coffee, Ryan is responsible for roasting, green coffee buying, and quality control programs. He spends a significant portion of the year outside the country, working alongside Madcap’s friends and partners across the globe.
When he isn’t working, Ryan enjoys hiking, cooking, practicing yoga, watching movies, crushing wine, and spending time with family and friends.
