During these uncertain and changing times, we wanted to take a moment to address our friends, customers, and the community about the challenges and hopes we have for Madcap during COVID-19.
Madcap has always been about prioritizing people. Prioritizing one another, our staff, our customers, and our partners. There are few things we enjoy more than sharing a cup of coffee with our community and generally, there aren’t many daily rituals as significant as this. However, at a time like this, people’s safety is our number one concern.
At the moment we are taking each day one at a time, absorbing all of the new research and information as it comes, and most importantly prioritizing the health and safety of our community. There have been many reinforcements of our current policies as well as some new ones adopted in order to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in our cafés and roastery. The hope is that sharing our practices will help align us with other businesses out there in their responses to COVID-19.
In the retail spaces, we are now moving to a completely online ordering system where customers can come pick up their coffee to-go , in a safe manner, while maintaining proper social distance. This method of ordering will provide safety for both our customers and our staff. In addition, we are working on a delivery system to reach our local customer base that may not be able to leave their homes during this time. We are continuing to reinforce our strict sanitation policies and are encouraging our staff to take paid time off, especially if they are feeling ill. We are also limiting the amount of staff working at any given time and asking the public to respect that the café spaces are currently not open to the public until further notice.
In the roastery, we are continuing to practice food safety procedures as normal, with hair restraints, beard nets, and gloves when handling products, but have also increased the emphasis of handwashing to decrease cross-contamination. In our quality control room, there are new single cup, single person cupping procedures in place. These spaces are also not open to the public, nor any non-essential staff members until further notice.
Overall, we are creating modifications as the need arises and have standing daily meetings to assess current and future practices to do our part. These are challenging times that we have never seen before. Let’s stay positive, stay healthy, wash our hands, sanitize, practice social distancing, and continue to be kind to one another. We are committed to doing our part in sharing coffee, for as long it remains possible. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out, we are here. We’re all in this together.
Your friends at Madcap,
Trevor, Ryan, and Chris
