This year, we are offering a unique set of 2—(1) 8oz bag of Agua Dulce Gesha and (1) 12oz bag of Agua Dulce. This is an extraordinary set, contrasting the meticulous work of the Perez family between two outstanding selections: Agua Dulce and Agua Dulce Gesha.
The Perez Family has been farming coffee for 4 generations now. Wilfrido Perez inherited the farm from his father, Jose, in the 1990s. In recent years, Wilfrido’s son, Hernan, became more involved with the farm by separating lots throughout the farm with an emphasis on finding the highest quality coffee. Agua Dulce translates to “sweet water,” and the phrase is often used to refer to “fresh water.” The translation couldn’t be more true for the sweet and fresh tasting coffee they produce!
The first offering in the set is Agua Dulce Gesha. Gesha, a rare and complex variety tracing back to Gesha village in Ethiopia, has gained popularity in Latin America over the past 2 decades, setting records and winning competitions with its prominent, complex, flavor. Although there is a growing amount of Gesha in Guatemala, Agua Dulce Gesha is one of a kind, taking 2nd place at the 2018 Guatemala Cup of Excellence. This coffee is unique, charming, and shining with excellence. Sipping this juicy and floral coffee is filled with bliss, like skipping through a field of lavender on a pleasant sunny day.
The 2nd offering in the set, Agua Dulce, is a blend of Catuai and Bourbon varieties from throughout the farm. The classic Agua Dulce is back for a 3rd season and boasts flavor of plum, juicy raisin, milk chocolate, and tangerine that’s become a perfect go-to during the fall and early winter months.
The Perez Family combines a perfect recipe of terroir and a diligent washed process that sets the stage for absolute brilliance in their coffees. We hope you enjoy this unique offering from our friends at El Zapote, tasting the unique difference in two exceptional coffees from a beloved producer.
