Finca Consolapan has been in the Camberos Family since 1930. The quality focused farm is based in Coatepec, Veracruz, where the Garnica Variety grows at 1265 meters in a foggy forest with a cool micro-climate. The rocky soil of the farm runs alongside the Consolapan River. At their farm, the Camberos Family is obsessed with quality, from detailed fermentation and drying times, to reading the sugar levels of their coffee cherry with a brix meter. The Camberos aim to not only produce quality coffee, but to incorporate traditional cultivation. This revolves around a framework of sustainability and good agricultural practices, keeping their workers and the land as their top priority.
Finca Consolapan won 8th place at the Cup of Excellence and happened to be our favorite of all 28 winning coffees. Garinca variety is a cross between Mundo Novo and Caturra (similar to Catuai) that was developed by Mexican Institute of Coffee in the 1950’s. This coffee accounts for only 5% of the coffee in Veracruz and is less common in other parts of the country. Finca Consolapan is a dense coffee, with layered tropical sweetness and lingering cherry tobacco.
