While visiting coffee producers in the Santa Barbara region of Honduras, we took a chance and knocked on the door of Juan Angel Izaguirre’s farm, El Cedral. To be fair, it was a calculated chance. His farm is surrounded by some of the most popular and award-winning growers in Santa Barbara, his trees looked healthy and beautiful, and elevation of 1650 meters above sea level is almost ideal for producing sweet, bright coffees. It was no surprise that Juan Angel’s coffee is stunning.
2014 was our inaugural purchase of Juan Angel’s coffee, and the first time he sold directly to a buyer. Since then, we’ve been paying Juan a visit each season and have gotten to know him quite well. In getting to know Juan (or Jonny Angel as we call him at the roastery), we’ve learned that he’s one of the hardest working guys we’ve met. He’s a humble, hardworking family man. Over the past few years, we’ve been able to work together and see first-hand improvements in quality and production at the farm level. Since we’ve been working together, Juan has saved enough money to buy a new plot of land and plant new coffees to increase his production. Each year, we are growing as a company, and likewise, Juan Angel and his family are able to continue to invest and grow their business alongside us. We are honored to be the sole buyer of Juan Angel’s coffee and as always, we are excited to share his work with you.
