Thiriku Cooperative is located in the famous coffee region of Nyeri in Central Kenya. Over the years, Thiriku has garnered a reputation for consistently producing some of the area’s finest coffee. The washing station is at one of the highest elevations for processing coffee in all of Kenya. The factory receives SL28 and SL34 coffee cherries from its 2500 members who farm small plots of land surrounding the station. Due to its lofty location, Thiriku Cooperative experiences a cooler micro-climate resulting in slower fruit maturation and longer fermentation times.
This Kenyan collective is detail oriented throughout the entire process. They sort the ripest cherries, regularly rotate the water used for fermentation, and carefully plan how long the coffees are held conditioning at the mill before they are delivered to the buyer. The perfect climate paired with the methodical approach deliver an exhilarating coffee with sunny tropical acidity and articulate plum sweetness.
