Each year we look forward to releasing the fan-favorite Party. Always a natural processed coffee from Ethiopia, this year we are bringing back Raro Nansebo for its pastry-like sweetness and bright acidity.
Severe delays in shipping out of the Red Sea have prolonged Raro Nansebo’s arrival to our roastery. As we continue to wait for Raro’s arrival, we’ll be utilizing a naturally processed lot of Worka Chelbessa out of the Gedeb, Gedeo region of Ethiopia to represent Party.
Gedeb is in the southernmost Wordea district of the Gedeo Zone. The farms in this area have relatively young coffee trees, many around 20-30 years old. The Worka Chelbessa mill is overseen and operated by SNAP exporter, Negusse Debela, who began working in the area in 2017, eventually expanding the mill operation to the nearby area of Danche in 2019. At the mill, coffee cherries are laid out in thin layers and left to dry for 15-21 days on raised beds. The cherries are turned over constantly during this period to ensure they dry evenly. Underripe cherries are sorted out over the course of the drying period.
In the final cup, we’re enjoying juicy red notes of strawberries, bright lime and sweet cotton candy. Party shines no matter the brew method, but we especially enjoy it over ice or as espresso on a sunny morning.
