El Porvenir, which translates to “The Future” or “Things to Come”, fittingly was the first coffee we purchased when we began roasting in 2008. We’ve brought it back to our menu every year since, along with two other coffees grown by the Rodriguez Family.
Headed by 4th generation farmer Gloria Rodriguez, the Rodriguez family operates a number of small farms located in the Apaneca region — known as the “Golden Coffee Belt” — in El Salvador. Intention and care are woven into every step of the process, from picking and separating the Red Bourbon variety in this year’s El Porvenir to washing and drying the cherries on concrete patios. While the elevation of El Porvenir sits lower than most of our line-up, the area fosters a unique terroir benefitting from cool nights, constant wind, and the volcanoes surrounding the area. The Rodriguez family’s consistent dedication to their coffees shines through in the final cup, with notes of mouthwatering blood orange, honey, and juicy pineapple.
